"WATCH" is an important book that covers the technical and historical development of the modern wristwatch. In its 256 pages, "WATCH" includes 650 color illustrations photographed by the famous Dutch photographer Erik Hesmerg. "WATCH" will be the first reference book published and disseminated internationally on this subject.

In the first part, the book contains a historical overview of the evolution of the modern wristwatch between the years 1950 – 1994 is given. The text deals systematically and in alphabetical order with a number of artists who designed watches many years before the introduction of the successful Swatch watch. An illustrated overview of these watches as well as a short biography of the "creative artists" are also included.

The second part of the book places the development of the electric and electronic wristwatch in a historical perspective. These are described in chronological order from the first battery-operated watch with mechanical contact balance, through the development of the tuning fork watch, transistorized watches with balance and finally quartz watches. The technical developments are explained in a short and direct manner, supported by clear illustrations.

"WATCH" is the first book to fully record the evolution of the modern watch. It will be a reference book for those interested in modern designs and technical achievements.

The author spent fifteen years accumulating the information contained in this book. He visited not only watch industry centers to study their archives, but also factories, museums, watch collectors, artists and designers.

Important institutions, including the Goud Zilver and Klokken Museum in Schoonhoven, the Netherlands, the Musée d'horlogerie in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, and the Museum of the Japanese company Seiko have enthusiastically contributed to this book by offering original material for publication. Other museums, institutions, many watch manufacturers, designers and collectors have contributed to the wealth of information contained in this book.
