SICURA BOARD WATCH "GT GRAND RALLYE" CA. 1960
ON HOLD
Here's a superb accessory for fans of vintage cars and atypical parts.
This is an extra-light, trip-timer car watch from the 60s, which could be found on a Porsche dashboard, for example.
This G.T. Grand Rallye is signed Sicura, a brand renowned in its day for sports watches, which rescued Breitling from oblivion in the late 70s.
Breitling SA was founded in Saint-Imier by Léon Breitling in 1884. When Breitling died in 1914, the company passed to his son, Gaston, and then to his grandson, Willy, in 1935. His children, however, were not interested in continuing the family business, so the Breitling factory in La Chaux de Fonds closed in December 1978. Willy, already in poor health, died in May 1979.
Ernst Schneider, owner of the Sicura company in Grenchen, acquired the Breitling name from the founding family in 1979. Watch production was transferred to the Sicura factory, which later changed its name to Montres Breitling AG, and then Breitling AG in 1994.
Initially, an adhesive was used to fix and position it so that the time could be easily seen at night, with its total phosphorescence and thick hands, and during the day, with its imposing orange seconds hand, all in a dark color and anti-glare cover. The bezel is rotating, and setting the time is easy with the large, notched crown. Swiss movement by Sheffield Watch Inc., a brand renowned at the time for its high-end products, yet more a decorative accessory for classic cars than the ultimate precision accessory. A rare item.
